  I am a truly dedicated fan of low budget trashy horror films, and of classy intelligent horror films too. Voodoo Lagoon does not fall into either of these categories. My wife and I decided to watch a film and couldn't find much on, we found Voodoo Lagoon and I checked the IMDb reviews and thought "ok, sounds better than it looks" how wrong I was. Very cheap production values, terrible (and I mean terrible)acting, a bog standard and absurd plot line, some of the cheesiest "torture" scenes (the scene at the beginning of the film will have you in hysterics) It was the biggest waste of money I have made for a long time. I try to find a good side in most trashy horror flicks and have no problem suspended my disbelief as a general rule, but this film is seriously, seriously poor....it had some nice scenery, that's about the only virtue I can find. I wish it was so bad its good, but it ain't, just plain bad.

  Do not waist one second of your time on this trash. Who writes this garbage ? This is such a poor plot I can not believe they wasted this much talent and money (OK so they did not waste much in those two areas) on such a movie. For a while I thought this must be one of those ultra lame made for TV flicks until I saw a flash of breast. The main bad guy is so lame and sad and would not scare anyone and when he is wearing the "Voodoo" mask I found my self giggling in disbelief. The cast are a bunch of wimps and can not fight back even to save there sorry lives. Why I even bother to write this review is to save your precious time and spare you the pain of this abortion called Voodoo Lagoon.

  Here's a tip: If, en route to your vacation on a far off isle, you're asked to fill in a questionaire that includes the query 'What's Your Worst Fear?', do not wait. Grab the nearest parachute, freefall to the ocean and wait to be picked up by a passing steamer. Obviously, these dumb-as-a-post teens don't click until it's too late, and their various deaths include spiders, rats, buried alive and castration. It all sounds very nasty, but in this farcical enterprise, it's all rather amusing. The cast includes a guy who looks like a young Jim Carrey, and indeed tries to act like him, but sadly he's not fit to lick the dirt off Jimmy's hi-tops. As for the rest, considering their main standouts are the size of their breasts or pecs, I think we can leave them to one side. Rarely has a film ever felt as cheap as this one, with shoddy camera-work, bad editing and even terrible sound quality abound. Worse still is the plo... Oh I forgot, there isn't one. Just plenty of running about, with LOTS of portentous dialogue from an old guy with an incredibly annoying voice. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does... And the climax is a classic example of the scriptwriter just giving up and smearing fecal matter to the page. What a complete load of... I don't begrudge people going on a free holiday. I just wish they wouldn't pretend on making a film while they're at it. 1/10

• Utter Total Bilge

  I cannot spoil this properly because I was unable to watch it all the way through - If I had I would be tempted to spoil it just to save anyone the trouble of watching it. This is unusual - I normally watch all of a film - for example, I managed to fight through every brain draining moment of Battlefield Earth - don't ask me why. I managed to watch about 35 minutes of voodoo lagoon before giving up. It fails on just about every mark. Strangely - I didn't find the acting that bad. It just felt disjointed, badly written and confused. Don't watch it thinking that it'll be "so bad it's good" either, because it's not. It's just bad. The spoiler: The only redeeming feature is a few minutes of actresses in bikinis and a fleeting skinny dip. Whilst that gives a possibility of a few moments of solitary pleasure, its all over too soon, and should that be your game I really think you would be best looking elsewhere - the internet for example. I don't even care about this film sufficiently to find out how it ended on the internet. I've wasted enough of my life on it, please don't waste any of yours. It should also be noted that the three positive reviews are from reviewers with only one review, and all were made within a week of each other in 2008. * UPDATE MAY 2015 * I've just watched Mad Max Fury Road and as a result had to upgrade the score of this to a two. It turns out that at least one film is less worthwhile than this.

• Began to Unravel Toward the End

  Needing a break from their college studies seven young adults decide to travel to a small tropical island for a few days of sun and fun. During the plane ride there they are given a form to fill out which asks a number of questions with one being to list their greatest fear. Although this seems rather odd to them little do they realize that it will have a great impact on them when they finally arrive at their destination. Now rather than reveal any more of this movie and risk spoiling it for those who haven't seen it I will just say that for a rather low-budget type of movie this certainly had potential. The tropical scenery was nice, the story was initially intriguing and there were several attractive women as well. Unfortunately, the plot began to unravel toward the end and the overall lack of suspense and character development began to take its toll as well. All things considered it wasn't necessarily a bad movie but it could have been better. Accordingly, I rate it as slightly below average.
