The Rendering (2002) Reviews

  • It's OK - possible spoilers

Ok, basically this movie is about a sketch artist named Sarah from Boston who is almost stabbed to death. ten years later, she is asked to come before a parole board to represent her side of the story. This is when many other women start being attacked like Sarah was, and Sarah's husband is arrested because he looks like the attacker. The attacker actually turns out to be a friend of the man that tried to kill Sarah ten years ago. It's a good movie. In the US, it aired on The WB under the title "Portrait of Murder".

  • This is another great Made for TV movie that Shannen has done

I loved this movie, it kept you on your toes wondering what would come next from the beginning of the movie till the end. If u get a chance to see it I would definately recommend seeing it. Sara (Shannen Doherty) is doing a self portrait painting of herself she hears a noise so goes to leave the place where she is painting but the door is locked and when she turns around to go another way he (Gray-Peter Outerbridge) stabs her. 10 years later, just when she thinks she is safe her Gray is released from prison and goes after her again. He tries framing her husband for murder. To find out more.... Watch the movie :-)

  • Shannen Doherty was Outstanding

Always liked Shannen Doherty and in this film she really put her heart and soul into her role and showed what a great talent she really has to offer Hollywood. Shannen plays (Sarah Reynolds),"Another Day" TV, 01, who is married and seems to be drifting a part from her husband who wants children, but Sarah is just not quite ready for the patter of little feet around the home. The film starts right from the beginning with lots of violence and manages to have a story that never seems to end. The plot has many twists and turns, people go to jail who are innocent and the guilty seem to be release in order to start more torture and death. Shannen Doherty looked very sexy and attractive in this film and I only wish Shannen would get her act together in real life, so we can look forward to more of her acting career and great talents.

  • Very badly-made TV movie

    capcanuk2008-12-29

When I saw this was a Canadian production, I so wanted to enjoy it. I actually really like Shannon Doherty, and her performance was quite acceptable for a made-for-TV movie. However, this film is so chock-full of inconsistencies and impossibilities, that it makes one wonder how the writers were actually capable of getting jobs in the first place. It would be pointless to enumerate the countless errors in the plot and character development. Suffice to say that the writers know nothing about the judicial system, neither in Canada nor the US (come on, awaiting trial yet placed in the general population of a prison with all the hardened criminals?). The police are incredibly incompetent, as they can only be in badly-made TV shows. The main character (Doherty) at no point confides in either her husband's lawyer, nor her long-time friend the police officer, and this before any of the "don't talk to anyone, or else..." aspect of the plot gets going. And only in this sort of movie do women go, unarmed and alone, into dangerous situations to face possible serial killer/rapists. Suffice to say, even on a boring week-night, with nothing on the boob-tube, avoid this stinker of a rental. I'd even go so far as to say, avoid it if it comes on free-TV.

  • plot has issues

Sarah (Shannen Doherty) is attacked by crazed Theodore Gray (Peter Outerbridge). It's ten years later and Gray is up for parole. Sarah is still haunted by the attack and is married to Michael Reynolds in Boston. As a police sketch artist, she draws a suspect who closely resembles Michael. The victim runs into Michael and he's arrested. Evidence is found at their home. Sarah uncovers a frame up job. The problem is that it's unlikely for her police detective friend to not believe her or the height difference. The other issue is that the attack doesn't need to happen. A victim could be had to point the finger at Michael directly without an attack. In that way, the height discrepancy wouldn't even be an issue. There are lots issues with the premise that needs ironing out. Doherty is a good victim and Outerbridge is a good creep. The husband needs a better actor. This is functional as another woman-in-danger movie even if it has many issues.
