The Last Resort (2009) Reviews
Do not check into The Last Resort!!!!!
I just rented this movie from the Redbox today and I must say that if you are looking for a good movie to pull up a blanket and a pillow to cover your eyes with this is NOT your movie!!!!!!! But if you are looking for a movie to pull up a blanket and a pillow to help you fall asleep to well then this IS your movie!!!! The acting is bad, the violence is dull and the script is horrible. I fell asleep 3 times during this movie. I was waiting for it to get better or at least watchable but it never got to either point. The length of this movie is barely just over an hour but it is an hour of my life that I want back. Hey, at least one thing good came out of it, I only wasted a dollar rental. Take my advice and DO NOT RENT and PLEASE DO NOT BUY this one!!! Lionsgate has many other films in their library that are passable but this is NOT one of them!!!!
if you need to see a movie, this should be your last resort
bad things happen at a resort in the desert in Mexico. the resort is now cursed and anyone who goes there gets possessed and they do bad things to people they would normally would not do bad things to. decent storyline that could have had possibilities but bad acting and writing make it a movie to watch only for the attractive women that are in it. America olivio is hot. the other girls are pretty hot. there's only one decent nude scene but its not America. the movie is only about 70 minutes long. the copy i rented had no extras. i cannot recommend this movie for viewing unless its your last resort. thats all i can really say about this movie.
too much set-up for such a short film
After a prologue showing a man brutally murdering a bound woman, five girls take a vacation in Mexico to celebrate one of them getting married. After a night of partying four of them are abandoned in the middle of nowhere by some Mexican thugs (the fifth one ,Sophie, got lucky the night before and didn't join them for the little trip) As Sophie and her 'one night stand' guy and his friend look for her missing friends, the other ladies stumble over a strange church/resort that seems to affect them in a bad way. For a movie that's only one hour & 7 minutes (excluding credits), this one sure takes awhile on the set-up. The horror elements don't even really come into effect until the last 10-15 minutes (the guy from the prologue is relegated to just a two short flashbacks and those scenes seem like filler. The movie itself is alright for what it is, i guess. The production values are decent and it did keep me (semi) interested. Of course the ending leaves it WIDE open for a sequel. Eye Candy: Sita Young gets topless, her hair covers her nipples for the most part though My Grade: C- Lionsgate DVD Extras: Only a promo for Break.com; trailer for this movie; and trailers for "Frontier(s)", "The Slaughter". That's all
Technically acceptable
For what it is this movie is decently made. Except for the early parts in the bar it is a decently shot and the people involved seem to have a grasp on making a movie. There are some good scenes as well, including some tense moments that are relatively well acted. Unfortunately, it is hampered by generally bad writing. Again, some scenes are fairly well done and well acted, but are unfortunately overshadowed by too many scenes with distracting acting. With stronger scripts and acting the director might come out with some good stuff in the future.
Another terrible movie
Two days in a row I've been burned by DVD artwork. There are no scenes of a sexy woman in a bikini anywhere in this movie. Why do these movies portray scenes on the DVD art that do not exist anywhere in the movie? It's bait and switch! The acting was mediocre, and the story line was just dumb. The "club" was not believable. It wasn't playing music you would expect to hear at a tourist club, and there were about 7 people there. This movie is so low budget they couldn't even afford to pay enough extras to fill the club. And why cast good looking women if you're not going to show any skin?? Even if they don't have nudity, at least give us them in bikinis at the beach. You may have well cast 5 dudes instead. Girls partying in Mexico and not even a bikini shot??? Who are the idiots who make these movies?? The story line is loosely played out, and it's up to the viewer to figure out what exactly is happening to the girls at the resort. The idea is good, but not done well in any shape or form. A terrible movie. DO NOT RENT!!!
