  • Definitely made for the mega-fan

First off, you should know this is not a documentary on Stevie's life and career, this is a documentary on the making of her last solo album, the brilliant "In Your Dreams." The movie gives great insight into Stevie's "inner world" by allowing us access to her private plane, backstage footage, inside her enormous house in the hills of Los Angeles, and a ton of footage of recording and writing sessions. While all this is a fans dream come to true, a casual fan may not be so blown away with nearly 2 hours of film dedicated to an album they may not have heard. It's poignant, funny, and often times moving. Stevie spends a great deal of time addressing Hurricane Katrina (she wrong a song called "New Orleans") and the soldiers in Iraq (see "Soldier's Angel") - while not being in the slightest bit political or condemning to the Bush administration. I originally saw this in theaters when it was released on April 2 but now owning it myself I was able to sit in the comfort of my home and watch it without 300 other fans screaming, crying, and dancing around. This movie is a MUST SEE for any Nicks fan!

This documentary captures the making of Stevie Nicks' top ten charting 2011 solo album, "In your Dreams." The entire album was recorded in a house Stevie owns in the LA area. The album is amazing, as is this film showing the vision, the recording process, and everything else the went into making the disc. Stevie Nicks is now a living legend, and a fascinating lady. Still beautiful in her 60's with a still one of a kind voice. The stories behind the lyrics are interesting and moving. And an amazing cast of characters who took part in this, makes for very compelling viewing. Especially for Stevie Nicks die-hards like me!! Even the non-fans should appreciate how this project all comes together.

Having been a fan of Stevie's for over 40 years, I was thrilled to find that this documentary provides an intimate view into her creative process, which few artists ever offer in such an open and honest way. Also, having a bird's eye view into her first time writing a song with a collaborator in the same room was very interesting and could prove helpful and instructive for those interested in writing songs with other people. Watching her write songs and interact with band members and musicians was a real treat. It was more than evident that her passion and skill as a singer-songwriter has only become stronger over time.

Synopsis of first three minutes: We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! We Love You, Stevie! Next three minutes: I Love Me, Too! I Love Me, Too! I Love Me, Too! My House Is Fabulous! My House Is Fabulous! My House Is Fabulous! My Co-Director Is Fabulous, Too! Lesson learned: Don't watch anything where the musical *star* is also the quasi-director. I like Stevie Nicks' music, but this film was unbearable. (No, I didn't make it past the first six minutes. I'll give it two stars, in the hopes that later on its awfulness decreased by half.)
