Paranormal Extremes: Text Messages from the Dead (2015) Reviews

  • Paranormal Latrine: Unbearably boring messages from the Dead

There is actually an interesting concept for a potentially brilliant film here, but the execution of everything from the script to the direction, editing, acting, camera work and sound makes that incidental. While it is good to see that The Horrible Actors Guild of America is keeping people employed, it's clear that only Brenda Grippi shows a level of talent above those that would be due paying card carrying members of such a union and seems somewhat out of place in this production. Josef Niznik (Brandon) on the other hand, might serve as the lifetime president of said guild. This appears to be a straight to vid "film" shot on video/digital medium. It's inconceivable that this movie might have received even a limited release in someone's basement, or garage. To cite the innumerable problems here (which include but are in no way limited to; zero chemistry between the lead and anyone/everyone else, less than chat cam level special fx, poorly written/delivered dialogue, etc. etc. etc) would take more time and space than this film deserves. If you're a fan of terrible movies, and not in that ironic "it's so bad it's good" kind of way, or equate amateur, backyard produced youtube videos to a severely bastardized version of cinema avant-garde' then this might be the film for you. However, for the rest of us; I think that if a person can find a single redeeming quality in this other than what I've mentioned and can ALSO sit through the entire thing then you've probably got something well over the Dali Llama in terms of patience and nirvana might be near. Though you still won't find it in this D-grade movie. Keep close to a fallout shelter if you intend to watch this bomb.

  • Movie-making in the great Ted V. Mikels tradition

    Leofwine_draca2016-08-14

You can say one thing about Ted V. Mikels as a director and that is that he's consistent: consistently awful, that is. PARANORMAL EXTREMES: TEXT MESSAGES FROM THE DEAD is as ridiculous as it sounds, a no-budget outing in the supernatural film genre with a plot that writes itself. The problem with this film is the cheapness of it: the entire movie consists of people sitting around in rooms and acting very badly. There's something about doomed romance here and messages from the afterlife, but it's all faintly ridiculous and none of the actors involved convince you of their motivations. The wooden lead, Colie Knoke, is particularly awful and puts you off watching whenever she's on the screen, which is 99% of the time. Otherwise the film is padded out with footage of tattooed non actors, cheesy emoting, and a handful of lame superimposed special effects that they shouldn't have bothered with. It's a dog.

Title is self explanatory, don't even think about watching this more than the opening credits...it's just not there. This whole "movie" is like kids playing with daddy's camera. Extremely poorly acted, abhorring filming skills, awful plot and I can go on forever. Only watch this if you're planning to make fun of it or if you're high enough to enjoy the ridiculousness of it all. Hope you're gonna take my advice and not even throw a glance at it. I don't even know how this was published ! It doesn't deserve even a 1 star rating. Thank you.

  • Was There a Point to This?

Paranormal Extremes: Text Messages from the Dead (2015) BOMB (out of 4) Addison (Colie Knoke) receives a text message from her boyfriend who is driving to another state. She doesn't answer but the next morning she learns that he was killed in an accident and it turns out that he sent the messages after he was dead. Addison has a hard time finding anyone to believe her but she thinks the boyfriend is trying to get in contact with her. I really love the work of director Ted V. Mikels. Wait, let me say that I really love Mikels but I can't stand his work. I love hearing the man talk and he's certainly an interesting character that I could listen to all day. With that said, his films have always been less-than- stellar but as a fan I get excited whenever a new movie comes out. This here is his latest direct-to-video release and sadly there's really nothing good about it. I've said this before with some of the previous films but is there really a reason this film needed to last 104 minutes? I also have to question who this film is aimed at except for fans of the director like myself who will watch anything that he releases. Mikels has never been one to do exploitation pictures meaning that he doesn't resort to graphic violence, sex or nudity. Instead he just has films like this that seem to serve no real purpose. I mean, there isn't any gore or nudity here. FIne. However, it's not scary either so what's the point of the film? Outside of three cuss words the films from Pixar contain more adult elements. There's just nothing of interest here and worse of all is the fact that the film runs so long when there's really not enough story here for a short film. I think the idea of receiving text messages from a dead person could have been made into something entertaining but that's certainly not this project. As you'd expect, the film was shot on a very low-budget and features the type of acting that you'd expect. None of these bad elements would be as painful if there was something else here to keep us entertained but there's really nothing. Fans will enjoy seeing Mikels in a small role but that's not enough to make this worth watching.

  • This Is The Kind of Movie...

    yumskilicious2015-07-14

That my legally blind cat and profoundly deaf budgie would make if they had been awarded with a lottery grant... and had been free basing all weekend! Honestly, I don't even know where to begin with this review. The movie plot and the acting are outrageously bad... think Ghost blended with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, remade by for-mentioned disabled/stoned pets with more money than sense and you'll be half way to understanding this complete and utter wreck of a movie! The séance scene in this film is something that I'd pay good money to have cleansed from my humiliated brain. The director who said "Well done everybody, it's a wrap!" After filming that scene must have been as high as a kite. The special effects must have been made by using the most basic, free software available for download on the internet. I have seen movies made in the 1920's that had more realism. The only positive thing that I can say about this movie is that you don't have to be stoned out of your head to wet yourself laughing at the absurdity of it all! I think this is the worst film that I have ever seen in my life, and I have seen some absolute stinkers! I will end this tragic review by using a quote from Addison's father when he says to her "Addison, this is a load of horse sh*t and you know it!" I couldn't have put it any better myself. If you want to watch this movie just to update your "Worst Movie Ever Seen" list then I highly recommend this one. However, if you want to enjoy every hour that you're bless with on this earth and want to have no regrets about wasting any of them I highly recommend that you, under no circumstances watch even 1 second of this movie! Don't say you haven't been warned!
