He even must learn to ride a bicycle and zip up his trousers without injuring himself. True-to-life tale of inner religious conflict. Funny, too.
You really get a feel of daily life in Thailand. Even the bathroom is traditional. Great mix of humor, tragedy and a great examination of the lead character's religious conflict. Some interesting portrayals of Muslim life in the far South; the terrorist attack was Muslim, and occurred in the southern city of Yala. Ultimately (minor spoiler ahead), our disrobed monk figures out how to be a good Buddhist in everyday life. NOTE: Baythong is how you spell "gold leaf," as in the stuff you rub on shrines. This film is named after a town in Thailand that should be spelled Betong.
