Neues vom Wixxer (2007) Reviews

  • It's utterly Mad

    bordany2007-08-19

It's quite a refreshing mad comedy coming from Germany. I never thought the Germans and the English would ever come together in a comedy. The music theme is fantastic. I mostly liked the use of Madness hit songs (also in Der Wixxer!) and the new NW5 which is truly a classic. Neues vom Wixxer has a bit of everything really: a bit of the Pink Pather,a wink at James Bond and a twist of Kafka's Angel of Death. It quite reminds me of the way they did those old films in the 60s. It wasn't about complicated computer graphics but rather some good acting and a genuine plot. Nice touch there.

  • Nonsense, which makes us laugh

    martecormann2007-03-22

WiXxer News To my mind the second episode "Neues vom Wixxer" was better than his forerunner "Der Wixxer". One can see that much love has been put in it with a great sense of humor. Some of the gags are just too absurd that I burst out laughing in surprise. Besides, there were some half hearted jokes that must not be forgotten. My absolute favourite scene is a chase between Bastian Pastewka and the Wixxer in a stair lift. Wonderful, unique and virtually genial are the karaoke performances by Christoph Maria Herbst personating Alfons Hatler. Bewildering and irritating at the same time is the idea of showing the movie partly in colour and partly in black and white. This trick even turns out to a surprising closing scene. Though the movie is formed by a strict dramaturgy, the plot is quite secondary. Christiane Paul has obviously her problems with this fact and seems to suffer a little, though she looks really pretty. To my mind, the ending of the story is far-fetched and lacks of logic. But this is not the point. Important is that "Neues vom Wixxer" is a movie that brings joy and makes us laugh. The movie is very good to recommend for people who are into sarcastic nonsense.

  • A seldom treat: A sequel which surpasses it's predecessor

    loddar2007-03-25

When the first movie came out, the crew announced it was only the first part of a trilogy. So there's still more to come... The first movie had first class comedians in cameos, but this is topped here. Watch for Fank Zander as pimp "Fred Fartwind", see Achim Menzel as mentally impaired musician behind bars, buy totally crappy CDs from Willemsen, try to find out where Hella von Sinnen is hiding herself during the movie... and see Vadder Abraham as Smurf-Bouncer(!) While they could not get all the veterans of the original movies for their first offering, basically everybody still alive is there: Fuchsberger, Winter, Howland, van Bergen, Völz... It's tragic that these movies come to late for Eddi Aren't, as his health situation prevents him from doing movies any more. Even more if you think about his last roles were in the ill-fated made-for-TV Wallace "wanna-be-funny" remakes. This movie has more and better action sequences, lots (and I mean LOTS) of in-jokes (Smurf-Song!), slapstick and even some minor plot twists. Watch out for the crazy credits (it's not mentioned at IMDb).

First of all, I haven't watched the first episode. So I can't say if episode II is better or worse. I guess people who know the old Edgar Wallace flicks will enjoy the film most, as there are (at least I guess so) allusions. So as I watched this film as if was something unique, I can they that even though it was quite funny, except some predictable jokes (at least there were less than in episode I, according to a comment from the magazine "stern"). The old "Wallace"-crew did a good job, but the best jokes, in my opinion, came from the cameos of Achim Menzel and Roger Willemsen. The role of Chucky was too small, this Klaus -Kinski-Parody was really great.

  • Mediocre comedy, but great advertisements

    ColtSeavers2007-03-21

This sequel is not as good as the first part, which I really enjoyed very much. It's been only two days since I have seen "Neues vom Wixxer" and I can hardly recall anything that went on in the movie. Only one thing I remember very clearly: The advertisements in the middle of the film. They were actually fantastic. The ads took only three minutes or so, but they alone made the movie worth seeing. Best of all: Roger Willemsen's self-parody as a hyper-intellectual classic music lover who advertises a symphonic version of the world's most beautiful ring-tones: "You won't find this collection in the stores - because it's crappy". Wunderbar.
