In Sao Paulo, there are some 250 thousand messenger boys on motorbikes. Three die a day, on average. The film addresses the root of the question and follows along with the day-to-day life of five motoboys. The film also shows the drivers' point of view. The director says he decided to broach the subject six years ago when he saw the tremendous growth in the number of messenger boys in town: "I realized that this was the result both unemployment in legal jobs and crazy city traffic, where cars always come first. Nothing more contemporary in Sao Paulo than the motoboys. This is a city that seems to crush human beings in order to grow and the motorboys are it."

Motoboys: Vida loca (2003) Reviews
A poignant View of this Phenomenon, caused by urban chaos
In his first documentary Caito manages to guide us through the universe of the "Motoboys" through the individual point of view of each of his lead characters, who conducts us on the different aspects of their profession, each with a distinct reason for having become a "Motoboy", and facing very different and harsh realities within one realm. The film has a raw and gritty feel to it, and the cinematography truly reflects the universe of the "Motoboys" the need for speed that they suffer during the day, weaving through the dense traffic, contrasted with the overbearing slowness of São Paulo's traffic jams, that at times place the whole city into a gigantic stall. The film truly manages to dives into the lives of the protagonists and show the bareness of their personal lives in contrast their jobs. "Motoboys" makes us reflect on this new profession, which grows out a necessity of todays modern world in major cities, of the speed of things, of the little value given to lives, when higher interests are at stake. This film evokes laughter at times, reflexion, an tears at others.
