Mix Tape (2003) Reviews
Strong cast, stronger screenplay - great first film
The male characters in this film eschew modern technology and cling tightly to the dying art of the "Mix Tape" - a personalized cassette featuring carefully chosen songs by various artists. From the psychotic post-breakup tapes that Dean makes for Zoe to the achingly heartfelt relationship tapes that Dave makes for Erin, the mix tapes provide a poor substitute for genuine communication, and the savvy female characters are smart enough to know it. Almost anyone born between 1965 and 1980 will have personal experience with mix tapes, and for those people, this film hits all the right notes. Look for big things from the cast (especially standouts Steven W. Bailey, Adrian Casas, Kitty Mortland and Heather J. Smith) and director Jefferson Root in the future.
