Misogynist (2013) Reviews
This Movie Was Terrible
The other reviews giving it 10 stars are clearly written by the filmmakers to give it some gusto. What is wrong with these people? Make no mistake, this movie is absolutely horrible. It is terribly filmed, terribly acted, terribly plotted. The cover and description are interesting, so I decided to check it out, what a bummer! I felt like I was watching something a high schooler threw together on his twenty year old computer. I am absolutely not kidding - no sarcasm - it is actually that bad. This is genuinely something I would expect to be thrown together in a middle schooler's bedroom, using free software. There is no plot. There's a big "twist" ending that makes very little sense, and leaves you angry that you wasted over an hour of your time. What these people were thinking is baffling to me. No joke, this is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's movies like this that have me convinced I could move to Hollywood with ZERO filmmaking experience and make a million. Seriously, how did this movie even get printed onto a DVD and distributed? Absolute unequivocal garbage. Don't waste your time.
Disappointing, confusing and disgusting
Really bad movie, no plot, nothing of any value at all. Nothing positive to say about this movie, at all. We were intrigued by an 8.6 rating. Not sure who rated it highly, but we would recommend that you watch anything else but this. There is no plot. The story barely exists, hard to say what could interest anyone about this movie. There is nothing sensual, erotic or appealing. stop now pick something else It is hard to find 10 lines of anything to write about this moving. (10 lines are the minimum required to submit a review). Did I mention that this movie was really bad. The title should have been enough, but it wasn't even descriptive of how bad the movie was.
TAXES AND TANGERINES
Trevor (Jon Briddell) takes the love torn Harrison (Jonathan Bennett) under his wing and teaches him about women. Harrison in return recruits more students as Trevor has created a cult where he teaches men how to control beautiful women by basically being an a-hole. Much of this low budget film is guys talking about what women want, lumping them all together as if they are the same and can all be treated the same. There are some flashbacks. I found the discussions boring. Women might like watching this, thinking it is akin to a Cosmo article on what men are like, but I found it insulting as it too lumps men all together as simply animals that want to completely control women and use them as sex objects. BTW that naked girl on the cover is not in the film. Guide: F-bomb, sex. No nudity. Some violence.
'Misogynist' might be Fifty Shades of Grey Antidote
Writer/Director Michael Matteo Rossi has caught the attention of many with his first feature film 'Misogynist'. In a current social climate that is seemingly anti white heterosexual male, it takes some guts to try to put out a film about a narcissistic, awful, violent man - which Matteo pulls off brilliantly. Misogynist is a low budget thriller that focuses on a man (Trevor) who for some reason has a huge chip on his shoulder concerning woman. He believes they want to be controlled, told what to do and even man handled. Trevor (played wonderfully by Jon Briddell) even goes so far as to have created a somewhat secret "Fight Club" where he teaches his rules to young men wanting to know how to get laid. Trevor befriend's Harrison, a man who recently got dumped by his girlfriend. Trevor promises to teach him his ways of women, and makes Harrison (played by Jonathan Bennett) his protégé. Throughout the film, we get to learn the top rules on how to make women want a man. Even the most unavailable and beautiful women. What interested me the most about this movie was that it doesn't praise this sort of narcissistic, misogynistic main character's behavior. It's actually a cautionary tale, and shines a light on a social issue that has been a part of culture's since the beginning of time. Alia Raelynn, Danielle Lozeau and Kris Black offer strong supporting roles and throughout the film there is great chemistry between all of the actors. If I had one issue with the film, it was the sound on certain scenes. A couple times the main character was speaking/whispering while his back was turned, and I had to strain to hear what was being said. I personally watch captions on every film I can, and hope to see this again with a caption option (or maybe I'll crank up the headphones or surround system). All in all I recommend Misogynist because it is a solid first effort and tackles a subject the way Fifty Shades of Grey failed to. I really liked the ending of this film, it tied all the loose strings together. I can't wait to see what Michael Matteo Rossi does next.
This is why we watch independent films
Without knowing too much about the film (apart from the very direct title), I decided to give it a shot based on the positive reviews; I was not left disappointed. This is why film-lovers crave to go back and enjoy the indie films; stripped away from the conventional studio story-line arcs and really dig into a unique innovative film that doesn't scare away from pushing the limit. The strongest element of the film is the fact that it is ENGAGING; there is no fat or any meandering around. The main character is electric, even though I hate to say it because he's plays such a horrible person, the actor (Jon Briddell) does a phenomenal job. The story is unique and character-driven and I love the chemistry between teacher and student in a very sick game of control. Watch the film; it will carry with you for a long while.
