Ronin flick from C.S. Lewis POV
I watched this film a few months ago and was impressed by the powerful dual story lines. The world of the wandering ronin is its own shade, with a historical/epic feel; the world of the architect in LA has its own feel. Anyone who longs to understand a higher calling than "getting by" will find some interesting proposals expressed here. No one has to agree with all of them, but recognizing that we're meant for more than what we can see and that there's more going on than we often understand? Those are priceless discussion starters if we're honest with ourselves. In the filmmaker's first attempt at narrative storytelling, he's captured the allegory of Story while also generating a tale that feels like real-life, too. (For the record, I love C.S. Lewis and The Princess Bride -- both of which shine direct light on our lives while also depicting a greater world than what seems obvious.)
Worst 85 minutes of my life
OK straight to the point, i watched this because of the fact it sounded interesting.....Ronin... Action....Fantasy etc. I did not expect it to be so religious, sure a journey to find ones true self but it was like the movie "Left Behind" (movie that doesn't look religious but is all about getting zapped up to heaven if your good or left behind on the earth if your bad "the rapture") You look at the poster of the movie and think wow this doesn't look to bad...a little drama... fantasy with sword fighting etc. but how you mix the bible(Christian) and a Ronin in Japanese culture is beyond me, to different beliefs to start with. I know it is a symbolism of your personal faith but if i wanted to get a sermon about good and bad in life i would have gone to church as i don't need to see it in a movie when all i want is to relax and forget about everyday life for a while which we all try do do by watching movies. I really wish i could go back in time and warn myself not to watch this crap movie but i am afraid i do not own a Delorean that is a time machine.
Garbage! Lol!
This movie has no redeeming qualities at all. Its insulting by merely existing. It very well might be the WORST film with most incompetently ridiculous acting I've seen in a long time. Its not bad in that "ok great this film is so bad we will watch it and laugh at how bad it is" way. Or bad in that "great thing to pop in to watch when you really want something to put you to sleep". No, this is bad in that "oh, gee, I was feeling really, really great today, and I really want to ruin few hours so that rest of my day can be filled with regret" kind of way. I've seen student, no budget films that look like Oscar winning AAA Hollywood productions compared to this garbage. Horrible writing, acting lines delivered by people who would get boo'd in a school play performed by 6 year olds.
*Spoiler* Review for Masterless
First i want to address the two nay-sayers. Obviously your not Christian. I get that. But maybe you should have read a review. Watched a trailer. You might have picked up on some hints to as what the movie might have in it. If you are too sensitive and can't handle hearing anything about Christianity... then don't watch this movie. But if you have an open mind and want to enlighten that said mind. Then give this movie a chance. And watch a man exploration of ones self. To see the character grow and develop through the two plains of existence, the spiritual and natural. Its a good movie with a refreshing feeling after you watch it. Most Hollywood puts out today leaves with a sick feeling. And there are so many movies i have watched that i regretted watching. This however did not make me feel that way. It gave me something to reflect on. Something to meditate on. Something to learn from. We all need this in our lives. Anybody can find something wrong with a movie. But for the budget... this was a great movie. Hardly any A-lister actors. Hardly anyone you've ever heard of. But yet the movie still was good despite all the negatives people want to throw at it. That is rare in the movie world. Coming from one of the biggest critics out there. This is worth a watch.
Awesome action and symbolism throughout the movie
Masterless is a tale of the battle of good vs. evil and the journey of faith that we all must personally come to grips with in our lives. Masterless has a great balance of drama, humor, and action all rolled into one magnificent, well-told story. There are some fascinating ideas developed through the movie that keep you wondering about what the characters will do next. Another amazing aspect of this film is that the spirit world was digitally created! Once you see the film, you will begin to understand how incredible that is. And I, as sort of a techie, really appreciate masterfully Craig accomplished that feat. I especially enjoyed the allegorical nature of Masterless. I believe the producer, Craig Shimohara, mentioned there will be a series of short films exploring the allegories of the feature film in more detail. I greatly look forward to that! I would encourage you to see the movie on the big screen if possible. If not, check out the Blu-Ray/DVD release on 2/2/2016!
