old Desi-movie formula set in new york city
Story in brief: Girl meets guy. Girl falls for the guy and guy falls for the girl. They hang out for a while. Until ... (fill in with usual Hindi movie melodrama and climax). So what's (somewhat) new : The guy is a software consultant in New York city, who has just come from India (Hyderabad). The girl is American-born person of Indian origin living in New York city. This had some promise ... Educational value: The movie begins by defining the two abbreviations used throughout the movie. FOB = Fresh of the boat (the guy is an FOB). ABCD = American Born Conpassionate/Confused Desi (the girl is an ABCD). The movie might provide some minor insight into the life of the software consultants that are brought to the US for long hours, low pay and little by way of job security. -- Pros: The movie does have a few good jokes. And the first quarter of the movie is not bad. Cons: The basic plot is just too stupid. Twenty thousand Indian movies have been made with the same old story, the same annoying melodrama, the same avoidable miscommunication and the same silly ending. Me and a buddy watched this movie at 2 in the morning, just because a friend (who's judgment I have since come to not trust) recommended it to us rather highly. So if you are like him, perhaps you will love this movie. Go watch it!! --
