Welcome to group therapy
Leo, a thirty something Argentine psychoanalyst, lived a great romance with Ana, a woman whose ambition was to take a chance in relocating to Spain in order to fulfill her culinary ambitions. Not able to getting what she was looking for in her native Buenos Aires, she proposes to Leo a change in trying their luck in Spain, where she is sure they will enjoy a better life. Leo, alas, has no desire to move to a new country. After all, he has a good practice and he is doing what he really likes. Instead of doing everything possible to have Ana stay, he wishes her luck in her new venture. Time goes by, and Ana comes home for a visit. She wants to see the friends she left behind now that she has made something out of herself. It does not take long before Leo shows up for a reunion at some mutual friends. The pain of seeing Ana is compounded by the fact that Ana was followed to Argentina by a man she has been dating, Oriol, an obnoxious character, who clearly is not in the same league as Leo. Will they find their way back to be together? Well, stay tune for the next episode. "Guelcom" is an attempt at comedy that follows a formula. We know what is going to happen from the start. The screenplay by Mr. Blanco and his co-writer, Diego Nunez, is not terribly original. One has the feeling the production was a vehicle for its star, Mariano Martinez, who is a product of 'telenovela', Argengine style, and extremely popular. That persona is not clearly present in this effort because Mr. Martinez is clearly out of his element. The supporting cast includes Eugenia Tobal, Peto Menahem, and Maju Lozano, among others.
