Fugitive Mind (1999) Reviews
one of Dudikoff's best
FUGITIVE MIND allows Michael Dudikoff to do a bit more acting that he has in the past. This time around, the focus is on his character and the possibility that his current life is masking a hidden one that has been programmed to resurface in time to commit a political assassination. As a result, Dudikoff gets to deal with his personality as he comes to realize he's not who thinks he is, and winds up on the run from the company he works for and his own wife! Heather Langenkamp is good as the only person who can help him figure things out. Like GALE FORCE (also with Dudikoff), it's a great starting point for a movie that is handled decently enough here to make it at least a good way to spend 90 minutes, but a big-budget production could really do wonders with the story.
A pale imitation of The Manchurian Candidate
The plot is a good one and the acting is good, but the movie does not quite live up to it's potential. The story is similar to another film entitled "The Manchurian Candidate". Which is about a man who is brainwashed or psychologically programmed into carrying out an assassination. My recommendation is to rent or watch "The Manchurian Candidate" instead of this one, which seems like a pale imitation. This movie seems like a production that was hastily put together without much thought or planning. The result is that the movie doesn't seem quite convincing and instead rather weak. Watch this only if you have nothing else better to do with your time.
suspensfull, unpredicatble, intellagent,...anything else?
First of, I don't believe this movie is getting such a hard time in reviews. I thought it was very good. Although Michael Dudikoff is the dominent lead I think Heather Langenkamp stole the movie. And this is the only reason I bought this, because of her. Because of her roles as Nancy in the Nightmare on elm street movies. For a Heather fan this is a true gem! But I discovered even more reasons to like this. The scientifical intellagence, the suspensfull unpreciatble storyline, the action and everything in between. I was on edge throught it trying to understand as it had a complex and clever story line! It kept you watching! This movie has made me a Michael Dudikoff fan also. This could had been a masterpiece but instead is in comferbale position of the best straight to video movie ever. ALTHOUGH, it did actually get a limited theatrical release in the USA and Canada. Remember that! But it does have some bad qualities. Heather and Michael were great leading roles, but some of the other actors. The acting was weak from some. In my oppinion this movie does not deliver the sci-fi good of "aliens" or "terminator" but is a damm good sci-fi flick that is worth the buy! Given a international release this could had been a international hit but unfortunatly is relitivly unkown accross Europe. It does lack in places. But if your a fan of the lead actors and like a bit of science mixed with action, do buy this film! I give this movie a solid 8 out of 10
One of Dudikoff's turkeys
This movie is getting bad ratings because it deserves them. Do not be fooled, this is not a science fiction movie. It is a drama revolving around a plot to assassinate a politician. I have been a Michael Dudikoff fan for about 15 years. I have to say this is one of his worst films. The plot is underdeveloped. The acting is terrible, except for Langenkamp and Dudikoff. They do good jobs with what they are given. Michelle Greene however definitely deserves a mention here. Her idea of acting here is walking around in miniskirts and trying to convey "the ruthless woman" that lurks within her. She fails miserably. Hedison is miscast here. He does not present an authoritative figure, which his character is supposed to be. He comes across as confused and out of his element, more as a puppet than a decision maker. The visuals are never quite right; every scene being too dark, too bright, filmed too closely, filmed too far away, etc. The movie definitely could have been better. The sound is horrible. Even with surround sound and the volume being loud enough to produce the "static background" effect, the actors words are inaudible in some cases. I suggest passing this one up. If you want to see a good Dudikoff film, try Avenging Force, Strategic Command, the Silencer, or Soldier Boyz.
Worth a look for fans of the actors
Yet another quickie from Ray, this one presents a convoluted plot of evil scientists, implanted memories, and a political assassination. To his credit, Ray assembles eclectic casts of genre vets, and this is no exception with Ian Ogilvy star of cult director Michael Reeves' films and former TV Saint, Irwin Allen star David Hedison, TV Buck Rogers Gil Gerard and others. Worth a look for fans of the actors or director, but don't be misled by the title and expect a kind of Donovan's Brain in a jar on the lam.
