Lawrence Shaw is a run of the mill guy who just can't get accepted for being who he is. He's not straight enough for his job where he sells testosterone fueled ad campaigns to beer companies and he's not stereotypically gay enough for his boyfriend. To make things worse, his father Elijah just died and his last dying wish was for Lawrence to go on a road trip with his extremely homophobic half-brother Kevin to bury his ashes. It's a heroically dumb journey of brotherly love and acceptance that begs the age old question... Can you truly accept someone else when you can't even accept yourself?"

Elijah's Ashes (2017) Reviews
Boring, uninteresting cliche characters
This film is excruciating. There is not one character that is not cliched and uninteresting. I had absolutely no interest in them or what was happening in their lives (or deaths) How did it get an average rating of 7.6?
Surprised at the High Review Score
This has got to be one of the worst movies I have ever watched. I was going to stop at around 15 minutes but I thought I would give it a chance. How mistaken I was to think that the movie would improve. I guess this is supposed to pass as a black comedy but in reality it felt like I was watching a rejected episode of South Park. The jokes fell flat, the character had no charisma, the script was stiff and and the characters were one-dimensional, the film exploited stereotypes, and I probably could go on but I've already spent enough time on a movie that wasn't worth it in the first place
Budget - but Fun!
Director/writer - Ryan Barton-Grimley does a perfectly fine job with this budget movie about two brothers, who are total opposites in personality, are tasked with taking their deceased fathers ashes to his requested burial location. The budget shows but the story succeeds in showing how these two brothers learn to get along. The slapstick might be a little dry and the personalities of the brothers comes off a bit lacking in some scenes. But as a whole I find the movie rather entertaining.
