In this one-hour documentary film, Demi will let the MTV audience inside to witness her most private moments, during her very public recovery from her eating disorder. With MTV's cameras following, she'll return for the very first time to the treatment facility she retreated to back in November 2010 to speak candidly to her recovering peers about her experiences, and to thank the counselors and staff who she says kept her alive. She'll also let the MTV audience witness first-hand her on-going evolution as an artist - as she ditches her bubble-gum Disney past and tries on a new persona as confessional singer-songwriter, and performs an album full of deeply personal material in-front of sold-out crowds for the first time.

Demi Lovato: Stay Strong (2012) Reviews

  • So real, soulful and heart-touching story! ❤

The film that's really worth to be watched! So soulful, heart-touching and absolutely incredible and beautiful! This story's helped many teens stay strong and understand that the main is to be oneself! Definitely I ❤ it! It's not a simple video! It's obligatory that this film will leave a mark in your heart! I doubt whether it will exert bad influence but it's more exactly that the video will help. This film's about a girl who have been fighting with her disease by herself since childhood not asking for somebody's help - about Demi Lovato. She inspires many people around the world and this is the truth. Thanks to her many people have understood that there are no insoluble problems, THE MAIN IS STAY STRONG. And I can proudly say that I am one of these people whom Demi's creativity influenced to. Thanks to her I've learned to cope with difficulties of my life and started to smile more often. As one sings in the song Send It On: JUST SMILE AND THE WORLD WILL SMILE ALONG WITH YOU!???? So 10 points out of 10

  • I am not too sure about the motivations

The title "Demi Lovato: Stay Strong" here may sound like a music video for a song, but it is not. It is a 42-minute documentary by director Davi Russo and from start to finish singer and actor Demi Lovato gives us an insight into her complicated years of coming of age and elaborates on the inner demons and disorders she was fighting. But this one is by MTV and that of course means you won't get a really medically relevant work, but one that always stays above the surface as the only approach MTV is giving it is because of Lovato. Bipolar and eating disorders are mentioned, but that is it. And this also brings me to the conclusion that I cannot take this one seriously despite the somewhat serious subject. Generic comments like "my fans helped me all the time" and comments by fans that Lovato's music somewhat keeps them alive sound honestly really pretentious to me. I think Lovato is a talented (somewhat), beautiful and smart young woman and I would not blame her for the entire thing coming off as a bit of attention-seeking. But honestly, with a full feature film about the same person and subject coming out these days, there is definitely an exploitative component to it. I will not be too harsh with my rating here though because if Lovato's fate helped some in dealing with things, then it is probably a good thing that this film was made, even if it is not because it was a quality watch, but because the fans weren't able to see through the real motivations here. The other review is actually a perfect example of that. So yes, I shall stay strong and not give in to the pretense and I give this one here a thumbs-down. Not recommended.
