Upon discovering lost footage of a raging car fire that takes the lives of two young girls, a group of filmmakers is inspired to go on the search to reveal the humanizing and humbling stories of those involved. Their investigation leads them from the concrete jungle of New York City out to the rural countryside of Midwestern, small town America. There, they enter the town of Colston, IL where they interview and befriend many people related to and touched by the tragic event. These interviews span several generations and tell the stories of hard-working, real Americans who struggle during trying times, yet find balance and strength within the caring support and pride of their community. However, a dark side to the town begins to surface as the filmmakers continue to interview the town. Certain interviewees lend to a theory that the death of the girls may have been more than an accident. What the hell? Wasted an hour
I guess if you liked Blair Witch you may feel differently about this film. I should have known when I was only a minute into it and was already hitting fast forward. I didn't realize it was a mockumentary at first until I recognized an actor. Amazon Prime suggested it after I finished watching actual crime documentaries so I just hit play. It was very slow and disconjointed. Once they get past the interviews with the "moms" (who no way can be old enough to have these girls unless they were 14 when pregnant), trying to figure out why they are wondering around this little town is very tiresome. There was no real logic for it. I found my self hitting the 10 second forward on my remote over about 20 minutes of it. My thumb got a cramp. As a documentary, this film would bomb. As a mockumentary you have to like the kind of "lost footage" type of style where there doesn't seem to be a clear direction. I gave it three stars instead of one, because the acting of dad and girlfriend was excellent. If Heather was supposed to be strung out, then her acting was also up there. Paul was ok, but the whole thing of making little innuendos to try a make him Don Paul of small town IL.was a little hard to swallow. The last 5-10 minutes was a good plot twist. More could have done with that I think and the final "revelation" was a bit too obvious even way before the reveal. Overall, don't waste your time.
Misied
I thought I was giving to watch a good mystery since it peaked my interest at the start but it was such scripted dialogue that it became unbelievably boring. Sorry
I Liked It!
Like others, I thought this was an actual documentary, since it was recommended by Prime Video in the true crime category. I thought I recognized an actor, then I also thought, "Wow, these Rust Belt residents are pretty articulate and philosophical" until the woman playing "Francesco's girlfriend" appeared and I sensed something was not ringing true (I'm a black woman, so it wasn't about that). Some really great acting in this movie-especially David Yow, who gives a stellar performance.
Mockumentary feels like the real deal.
This was a great little film. Acting was superb. Almost forgot it wasn't a documentary!
