Inspirational story of empowerment and accomplishment
If you have ever thought "if only I could lose weight" or "if only I could run, but I'm too fat" this film will show you that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to! If these 12 individuals were able to lose a combined total of 1200 pounds and become runners, why can't you? You will laugh, you will cry, you will be touched by their stories and their accomplishments. Best of all? You will know that you can do it too, and their FB group is filled with people just like you. A MUST see! Absolutely fantastic!
One of the most inspirational stories I've ever seen! Captures your attention from the first moment and just builds from there. Excellent portrayal of some of the struggles and thanks so much for keeping it real! It's a perfect combination to showcase all that makes up this fantastic running community...the teamwork, family, love, perseverance and dedication that are just as important on this journey as the successes at the finish line. I had goosebumps and tears at the end. I absolutely know this movie will inspire so many; It is really, truly an amazing documentary.
A Real Snore
First, I want to say my review of this documentary in no way reflects the amazing feat these ppl accomplished, and continue to accomplish! You don't get enough background on these folks to make that emotional connection. I think that's whats at the heart of the problem w/ the execution of this film. You never learn enough about these folks to get invested in them. Its really shallow when it comes to "putting you there" and making you feel what motivates these ppl. I don't need to see weeping or anything like that but I do need the filmmakers to make some effort to weave a story both present and past that connects me to this subject. Overall, w/out an emotional connection - you better have some action. And sadly, the way its filmed isn't exciting or novel. There are no dynamic film cuts or angles. Its very repetitive and it never builds beyond boredom. I wanted to be inspired, which is why I picked this film, but about 2/3 of the way through, when I realized the rest was going to be exactly like what I'd already seen, I just fast-forwarded to end and saw the same cuts I'd seen the whole doc. through. A most uninspiring "we overcame" documentary. So disappointing.
